"You shouldn't take this series seriously," wrote SPIEGEL critic Elisa von Hof in her review of the second season of the Netflix soap "Emily in Paris".
The Ukrainian Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko apparently sees it differently: In a message on the messenger service Telegram, he wrote that the depiction of a Ukrainian figure was offensive.
And further: »In 'Emily in Paris' we have the caricature of a Ukrainian woman who is not acceptable.
Are Ukrainians seen like that abroad? «Tkachenko is obviously referring to the character of Petra played by Daria Panchenko, who is shown shoplifting, is badly dressed and lives in constant fear of deportation.
However, there is practically no character in the series that was not drawn stereotypically.
After the first season was broadcast, the French complained that they were portrayed as unfriendly, celebratory and unfaithful.
The Eiffel Tower is constantly blinking somewhere in the background.
Americans fail even with the greatest effort in the foreign language course, and in season two an Englishman sits drunk in the pub and watches football.
The BBC reports that Oleksandr Tkachenko wrote a letter of complaint to Netflix.
