"Gives legitimacy to racism and sexism": a network protest against Omar Adam's song Israel today

2022-01-03T09:18:50.847Z

"Kakdila", the successful singer's new single, continues to stir up a storm: After the criticism from Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli, there is now a protest from the Facebook group of former Soviet expatriates

Omar Adam's new song "Kakdila" continues to stir up a storm and now a network protest is also being organized against him.

This is in light of what many see as a perpetuation of abusive stereotypes towards immigrants from Russia.

Last week, the singer released a new single, which describes a relationship between an Israeli man and a woman from the Soviet Union.

Among other things, it says sentences such as "and she drinks," "another word for you to Putin," and a hint of sexual promiscuity.

After Transport Minister Merav Michaeli came out against the song in a poignant post on the net, the members of the Facebook group "Russians without a sense of humor and their friends" decided to respond to the singer and what there is no other way to define except a song with very bad taste.

"This year we received a gift from Omar Adam. Yes, yes, we - people from the Soviet Union, received a gift in preparation for Novi Good," reads one of the posts regarding the work.

"More a reminder than a gift, of all the scars and stigmas we faced as girls and girls, and to this day, as strong women and mothers, they still sting. Yes, the lyrics of the song may be silly, maybe to someone with no personal connection to the subject it will sound even funny , But for us - those words are jarring.

"We do not laugh and we do not like the fact that we use the symbols of our culture in a song that comes to diminish and remind us of our foreignness. There's also an 'amusing' pun that reminds us of the famous and hurtful stigma of flowing, easy-to-achieve Russian women. "That they are good in bed (as a compliment - obviously), that they are flowing and experienced."

The group also spoke about boycotting Adam's performances, collecting signatures opposing the song, going out to demonstrate and even a class action lawsuit against the singer.

"Understand, the fact that such a song is currently appearing, at the end of 2021, in the mainstream, and will be played in clubs, is outrageous and unfortunate," the group said.

"Boys and girls who are exposed to this content today will hum these songs. Small (and big) harassment of 'cockatilla', of sexual innuendos - will get (again) legitimized - because it's funny, no? So it's. No. We're not kidding. "About A. Women because of testimony, because of origin. Omar Adam - with how stupid your song is, it mainly hurts, hurts and gives legitimacy to racism and sexism."

No response was received on behalf of Omar Adam as of the date of publication of the article.
