Covid-19 in France: 272 new deaths and nearly 67,500 cases recorded in 24 hours

“Every second, more than two French people are infected with the virus,” he also said.

If, by this formula, the Minister of Health undoubtedly wanted to mark the spirits in order to pass the bill, the latest figures from Public Health France confirm his remarks.

The body counted this Monday 67,461 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours (the figure for Monday corresponds to screenings carried out on Sunday), against 58,432 on Sunday (a number already very significant for a day after a public holiday) and 30,383 on Monday 27 December.

More than 19,000 hospitalized patients

"Omicron will fill our hospitals," Olivier Véran assured this Monday morning on France Inter.

In health centers, the increase in hospitalizations due to Covid-19 continues.

According to Public Health France, 19,606 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in hospital, while there were 19,043 the day before, and 16,921 last Monday.

In the last 24 hours, 2,160 patients have been admitted to French hospital services, against 652 on Sunday.

Among these patients, the health agency has 3,654 patients in critical care, the care units reserved for the most severe cases, against 3,572 the day before and 3,333 a week earlier.

In 24 hours, 352 patients entered critical care.

272 new deaths are also to be deplored, bringing the total of deaths to at least 124,014 in France.
