NEW YORK - A restaurant in Toronto is the best representative of Italian cuisine outside the national borders.
This is Don Alfonso 1890. He was awarded the ranking of The Best Italian Restaurants in the World 2022 - Prosecco DOC Award by 50 Top Italy, the online guide created by LSDM-International Congress of signature cuisine and by the newspaper Luciano Pignataro Wine & Food Blog .
Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto is the Canadian arm of the local historian of the Sorrento Peninsula, owned by the Iaccarino family.
In second place is a restaurant in Washington DC, Fiola, by chef Fabio Trabocchi, in third place Da Vittorio Shanghai, in fourth place Otto e Mezzo - Bombana in Hong Kong and in fifth place Sesame in Marrakesh.
Of the 50 brands in the ranking, 7 are located in the United States and the same number in France, 5 in the United Kingdom and Japan, 3 in China, 2 in Canada, as well as in Australia, Germany, Switzerland and Singapore. They also sign in countries such as South Africa, Sweden, Spain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Russia, Austria, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark and Morocco.

What we particularly notice, however, in recent years, is a significant increase in average quality. Gradually the stereotypes and false myths that surround the gastronomic culture of the Bel Paese are fading away and foreigners are thus managing to discover the true Italian flavors even outside the Peninsula ".
An award for Innovation and Sustainability went to the Osteria 57 restaurant in New York while the chef of the year is Massimiliano Sena de Il Lago in Geneva.
