NEW YORK - New York city of a thousand lights all year round and that surpasses itself especially during the holiday season. Even in January. From one end of the city to the other is a competition for the most spectacular lighting with some installations that are real works of art. This is the case with 'Lightscape' at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It is an illuminated show with over a million lights that goes on stage from dusk and celebrates the beauty of winter with a themed path within the more than 21 hectares of the botanical garden. Walking along Lightscape, set up for the first time this year, you come across monumental installations illuminated with plays of light and with background music. In total, the itinerary is scattered with 18 works, the most striking are the tunnel of the Winter Cathedral, Fire Garden in Oak Circle, Sea of Light, Cherry Esplanade. The works were all created by international artists. Lightscape will be on view until January 9th.
Another botanical garden for 30 years has brightened up the festive months with joy. This is the one in the Bronx with the well-established tradition of the Holiday Train Show, this year open until January 23rd. A replica of an antique train crosses a path that recreates a miniature New York showing iconic monuments such as, among others, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall.
Also in January there will still be the opportunity to visit the famous Dyker Heights illuminations in Brooklyn. The show is completely free, unless you decide to buy a tour, as they are all private homes competing to show the best lighting. Also free are the windows of many luxury shops in Manhattan. The most famous are on Fifth Avenue. The most spectacular lighting is that of the Saks Fifth Avenue department store which projects plays of lights along the entire building.
Opposite another New York Christmas must, the tree at Rockefeller Center.
The fir is over 24 meters high and weighs 12 tons.
For the decorations, 50,000 LED lights and a Swarovski star on the top, which weighs 400 kilos, were used.
Also in this case the attraction will remain for part of January.
If you want to find yourself in a fairy tale, you must book a dinner at the German restaurant Rolf's, in Gramercy Park.
Every year, from November to January, it is taken by storm for the thousands of decorations and lights that hang from the sky.
