(ANSA) - TEHRAN, 03 JAN - Torrential rains and subsequent floods have so far caused the death of at least three people, including an 8-year-old child, in Iran and left thousands of people homeless.
According to state TV, two victims are in the province of Fars, while the child lost his life in Bandar Abbas, in the southern province of Hormuzgan.
The red weather alert was launched in as many as 14 provinces, including those of Bushehr, Khuzestan, Sistan-Balochistan, Yazd, Fars and Hormuzgan, Iranian Red Crescent chief Mehdi Valipour told TV.
"The roads are closed and flights have been stopped in many provinces and the electricity has been cut off in some villages. Thousands of people are left out of their homes because hundreds of homes have been damaged," Valipour added.
