Airport employees found a newborn baby in the trash can of an aircraft toilet in Mauritius.

This was reported by the British BBC and the Mauritanian portal »Zinfos Moris«, among others.

The alleged mother of the baby was arrested and placed under police surveillance in a hospital.

She is a 20-year-old from Madagascar who came to Mauritius with a two-year work permit.

A medical examination showed that she had just given birth.

Investigators believe that she gave birth to the child during the flight in an Air Mauritius plane that landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on January 1.

Airport staff discovered the baby during a routine post-landing check-up and took him to a hospital.

According to the BBC, the woman and child are in good health.
