Kim de Klopp Squadron in Flight (737pilotgirl)

The stunning Kim de Klopp is no longer an Instagram model with more than 100,000 followers. She is also a squadron - and takes care to shatter stereotypes regarding her very gendered job. Belgian Kim is only 27 and flies Boeing 747s to the United States and China, having started her career with the Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air when she was only 21, then flew Boeing 737.

Despite her many years of experience in the job, Kim says people are often surprised that someone Which looks like flying passenger planes. She says, "Often 'are you one of the flight attendants?' "That's the first question people ask me. When I say I'm a squadron, they ask if I'm really flying the plane. I'm proud to be a woman in this industry. I'm proud to be part of the 5 percent of women who fly and fly around the world."

Kim decided she wanted to be a squadron at 19 and immediately started working on it.

She spent two years studying in Romania and posted her first selfie aboard a 737 Blue Air flight in September 2015. In 2017 she left Blue Air and announced online: "Thank you to Blue Air for being the one to offer me the opportunity to fly the 737 at 21" .

She added: "I am leaving with a full of amazing memories."

After that, she started working at Norwegian and announced the job on Instagram with a selfie in the new uniform and the text: "New life, new style". The photo received over 10,000 likes. After joining Norwegian, Kim was placed in Alicante, Spain, where she currently resides. Since the properties there are cheaper than in her native Belgium, Kim bought herself a house near the airport. With perfect timing, as soon as she arrived at the base Kim met William, a handsome pilot of the Norwegian airline and the two fell in love. Very quickly William moved in with her. "It came naturally because we were friends at first," Kim says in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Kim is a first officer, also known as a sub-squadron of the plane, so she flew alongside the captain and their cabin crew.

During her three years at Norwegian Airlines, Kim flew ten days a month between Alicante and Scandinavia.

She was a short-range squadron, which for Kim felt "almost like a normal job" because she would return home to Alicante in the evening to hang out with William.

During her 20 vacation days a month, Kim spent time swimming, hanging out with friends and in the gym.

Then came the corona

When the Corona arrived in 2020 and its scheduled commercial flights were discontinued, Kim William was taken on leave and after long months at home they decided to make a change. Both have become pilots on Challenge Aircargo, an airline that includes flights to distant destinations - and Kim has introduced a brand new aircraft. It now flies in massive Boeing 747-400s - known in the aviation industry as the "Queen of the Sky". The planes weigh around 400 tons compared to the 80 tons of 737 sacks it was used to. "It was so scary at first," Kim said. She soon got used to the new models - and the new job has its advantages.

In her new job Kim has visited distant cities like New York, Atlanta, Houston and even Wuhan.

When she first lands in a new place, Kim makes sure to get her picture taken because "all I can think about after a flight is take off my uniform," she says.

She then explores the city on foot because "it's the best way to discover the city and all the restaurants you might not find online."

Kim gets along well with her captains and staff and often spends time with them in new restaurants and bars, before returning to the hotel for a night’s sleep.

With a generous company allowance for pampering meals and hotels, Kim is able to get the most out of what each destination has to offer.

Kim has visited a lot of destinations, but New York is her favorite - where she has visited eight times since she started flying on long-haul flights in March.

"When I come to border control in New York everyone recognizes me!"

Kim says.

Although she enjoys her adventures in different cities, Kim says she misses her short-haul flight routine.

If she ever wants to return to Norwegian - and this time to sit in the seat on the left as captain - she will have to accumulate overtime, as career advancement is based on flight hours.

She currently has 3,500 accumulated flight hours, but she will need to accumulate 4,000 hours to become a captain in Norwegian.

Her friend has accumulated 2,500 hours - meaning she may become captain before William.

"We're laughing about it," she says.
