Predictions for an unusual jump in patient numbers are coming true:

6,474 verified Corona were located from midnight to yesterday evening.

This is 5.71 percent of the 172,666 new tests.

According to these data, today the threshold of 7,000 new carriers and possibly even more will probably be crossed.

On the other hand, the number of hospitalized patients remains stable: in the corona wards, 108 patients are hospitalized in critical condition, of whom 35 are respirators.

Accordingly, the medical staffs at the various hospitals are already preparing for the difficult scenarios, especially in light of the simultaneous outbreak of influenza.

We went out to check what the deployment on the ground looked like.

At Rambam Hospital in Haifa, six corona patients are hospitalized in an isolated ward. As part of the preparation for the fifth wave, the hospital will be able to expand its hospitalization capacity to close to 100 adults in the same format as the previous wave Preparations for the ability to hospitalize children - up to 45 children at the request of the Ministry of Health, if indeed the current wave requires it.There is currently no plan to use the underground facility at the hospital again.

"We will work hard"

At Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, eight corona patients are hospitalized, five in serious condition, one in moderate condition and two in mild condition.

"We are on the rise, we have been feeling this in recent days both in the emergency department and in the hospital," Prof. Yaniv Scherer, the hospital's deputy director, told Israel Today.

He said, "Most of the inpatients are not vaccinated. We are also at the height of winter, the internal wards are overcrowded with patients of winter illnesses like the flu."

Barzilai Hospital is fully occupied, and according to Prof. Scherer, there is no talk of maximum capacity.

"If there are many dozens of Corona patients, it will put even more strain on the hospital, it will require us to work harder. Of course we will not be able to treat 1,200 patients if we have 600 beds, but if we have to we will give the answer."

The maximum capacity of the hospital, according to the previous wave, is two wards of 30 hospitalized in each and more often.

The hospital stressed that "the ability to expand occupancy depends on morbidity, but it is also a question of influenza morbidity and congestion in boarding schools and intensive care."

At Assuta Medical Center, Ashdod, two corona patients are being treated as of yesterday.

The center explained that at the request of the Ministry of Health 55 beds should be allocated for Corona patients.
