Urgent sausage recall: Federal Office warns of health risks

A sausage is being recalled.
Dangerous bacteria have been detected in the product.
The Federal Food Safety Office warns.
Kassel - A current recall * has been started for a sausage product.
The sausage from the manufacturer, the meat salad and mayonnaise factory Wolfgang Schmidt in Plauen, should not be consumed.
As reported by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, Listeria were found in the sausage.
The product “Vogtland cattle crackers” is affected.

According to the manufacturer, Listeria were only detected in the batch with the best before date 02.01.2022.
As a precaution, however, the packs with the best before date 16.01.2022 are also being called back, as contamination with Listeria cannot be ruled out.

Listeria can cause serious health problems.
The symptoms in infected people vary and range from mild flu-like symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea to severe infections such as meningitis and other potentially life-threatening complications, informs the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The elderly, pregnant women, newborns and people with a weakened immune system are particularly at risk.
Do not consume sausage: Federal Office informs about recall
Consumers should definitely refrain from consuming this product, warns the manufacturer.
According to the Federal Office, the sausage was sold in retail in Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia.
Purchased packs, also with other best-before dates, can be handed in at the respective sales point.
The purchase price will be refunded.
