According to the Hamburg public prosecutor's office, the HSV soccer player Bakery Jatta violated the residence law in four cases.

In addition, the authority accuses the Gambier of indirect false certification in another case.

Jatta's lawyer has now spoken out against the opening of the main proceedings.

Attorney Thomas Bliwier announced that he would raise an objection to the opening of the main proceedings against Jatta.

"I'll submit that today," Bliwier told the dpa news agency.

The court then has to decide whether the proceedings will actually be opened.

At the beginning of December, the Hamburg public prosecutor brought charges against the footballer before the youth judge at the Hamburg-Altona district court.

According to the indictment, Jatta traveled to Germany as a refugee via Italy in the summer of 2015 without a passport or residence permit.

In August 2015 he passed himself off as Bakery Jatta, born on June 6, 1998.

According to the public prosecutor's office, he wanted to be tolerated because he was still a minor.

In fact, Jatta's name is Bakary Daffeh, was born on November 6, 1995 and, under these personal details, has already worked as a professional footballer for various African clubs, according to the public prosecutor.

After receiving the tolerance in Germany in November 2015, the defendant continued to use the name Bakery Jatta.

He is also said to have used identification documents from Gambia to apply for or extend a residence permit, it is said.

A driver's license was also issued in this name.

SPIEGEL research revealed that HSV had already checked Jatta's past in January 2016, but apparently found no evidence that Jatta had forged his identity.

In September 2019, the Hamburg-Mitte district office stopped investigations against Jatta.

"Should there be a main hearing, we will defend our client and look forward to the further proceedings calmly," said Bliwier to the "Hamburger Abendblatt".

Bliwier referred to Jatta's documents that they had been checked to see whether they were genuine.

"We still have no reasonable doubts about the authenticity," said the lawyer.

Jatta is not present at the Hamburg training camp in Sotogrande, Spain, as a corona infection had been proven.

Jatta's lawyer had denied the allegations against the midfielder several times.

The HSV stood behind its professional.
