A retail chain is currently informing about a recall.

Affected is a cell phone charger that can cause electric shocks.

Kassel - Whether smartphone, tablet or even smartwatch, they all have to be recharged over time.

However, since the chargers can break after prolonged use or easily get lost while traveling, it is advisable to buy an inexpensive replacement product.

Such a replacement charger, more precisely an adapter, is now being recalled by the Danish retail chain Flying Tiger Copenhagen.

The website says the USB charger is not safe.

According to the company, the plastic can in rare cases become soft, which could cause internal lines to suddenly become exposed.

The following product is affected by the current recall *:

USB charger adapter "Vægoplader"

Product:

2.4A double USB EU (in white and in black)

Item number:

3024900 and 3024901

Recall: Cell phone charger can be returned to Flying Tiger Copenhagen

Electric shocks could occur due to the exposed cables.

Customers are therefore expressly advised not to use the device any longer.

According to the German Red Cross (DRK), muscle spasms and burns can be symptoms of electric shock, among other things.

However, it could also lead to unconsciousness or cardiovascular arrest.

Therefore, in the event of an electric shock, it is essential to dial the emergency number.

The product has been on sale since October 1, 2021, so the recall * comes quite late around three months after the start of sales.

As stated in a press release from the company, consumers can return the charger to all Flying Tiger branches.

The purchase price will be refunded.

Phone charger recall: Stiftung Warentest only recommends original products

The Stiftung Warentest advises that you only use charging cables and adapters that are specially designed for your own mobile phone or electronic device.

In addition, when buying, you should pay attention to labels such as the “Geprüfte Sicherheit” (GS) seal, the VDE seal or the CE mark.

A good year ago there was also a recall of a smartphone charger *.

A malfunction could result in overheating.
