In Croatia a dog probably saved the life of a hiker.
As reported by the AFP news agency, among others, Grga Brkic fell on Saturday near the Vaganski Vrh mountain in the Velebit Mountains.
He had badly injured his leg.
However, the incident occurred in difficult terrain, which is why it took 13 hours for the rescue workers to finally arrive at Brkic.
During this time, North, an Alaskan Malamute, warmed Brkic by lying on him.
Without this warmth, Brkic might have frozen to death.
"The friendship and love between people and dogs are limitless," wrote the Croatian mountain rescue service HGSS in a Facebook post about the incident and also published a photo of the two.
This shows how the dog lay down in a circle on the victim.
As the rescuers announced, snow, black ice, torn branches and landslides had made it difficult to get to the victim.
"This dog is a real miracle, friendly, personable - maybe he likes people more than other dogs," its owner, Brkics cousin, told the daily newspaper "Jutarnji List".
Alaskan Malamutes are known for their thick fur and stamina.
