Hamburg tightens corona rules largely to 2G

A double vaccination or survived corona infection will no longer be sufficient for many activities in Hamburg in the future. The Senate wants to replace the 2G rule with the 2G plus rule in many areas.

The number of corona infections in Hamburg is increasing rapidly, the seven-day incidence is already over 460. The Senate is now reacting - and tightening the corona measures.

The previous 2G rules will largely be replaced by 2G-plus rules, said Senate spokesman Marcel Schweitzer.

This means that in addition to the double corona vaccination or proof of recovery, a rapid test is also required.

That applies to gastronomy, culture, indoor sports, but not retail.

As a justification, Schweitzer referred to court rulings from other federal states that had overturned 2G-Plus rules for retailers.

2G-Plus does not apply to those receiving a boost

Excluded from the compulsory test for vaccinated and convalescents from Monday on are people "who have a booster vaccination," said Schweitzer.

It can be assumed that Omikron is now the predominant virus variant and that fully vaccinated people could easily become infected with it, said the spokesman.

Booster vaccinations, however, increased protection.

According to Schweitzer, pupils are also exempt from the new regulation, as they are regularly tested in schools anyway.

Only ghost games are allowed to take place in professional football

Major events in professional sport such as the Bundesliga will have to be held as ghost games in Hamburg due to Corona.

So far, there had been an exception regulation that deviated from the decision of the Prime Minister's Conference.

In the amateur area, outdoor sports events may in future only take place in front of a maximum of 1000 spectators.

In sports halls, an upper limit of 200 spectators should apply, said Senate spokesman Schweitzer.

Up to now, a maximum of 5,000 spectators outside and a maximum of 2,500 spectators in halls were allowed at events according to the 2G rule.

The Hamburg health authority gave the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week on Tuesday at 463.3.

On Monday the value was 440.3, a week ago it was 329.8.

Hamburg is thus still well above the national average: across Germany, the seven-day incidence rose on Tuesday from 232.4 the previous day to 239.9, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

However, the RKI pointed out that due to less test and reporting activity during the holidays, the figures could still be incomplete.
