2022 will bring some changes in supermarkets.

From compulsory deposit, the waiver of cheap meat to a ban on plastic bags.

Munich - Another year has passed and 2022 is fast approaching.

The coming year will also bring some changes with it - for example in supermarkets.

Merkur.de

has summarized what consumers have to be prepared for.

These changes come for supermarkets from 2022: An overview

  • From January 1st, it will

    no

    longer be possible to sell

    plastic bags

    at the supermarket checkouts

. The Federal Cabinet decided this in 2020. According to the

Federal Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection

, however, not all plastic bags should disappear from the scene. Only single-use plastic bags with a wall thickness of less than 50 micrometers are banned. The thin disposable bags (shirt bags) for fruit and vegetables and more stable reusable bags are still allowed.

  • There is a relief for supermarkets

    with the

    best-

before dates. Until now, shortly before the expiry date, they had to put an extra sticker on the affected products showing the new final price. As the

    consumer association

reports, that will change from May 2022. Then all the stores have to do is stick a sticker informing them that the product is being reduced due to the best before date. This means that no final price has to be attached.

  • From January 1st, all

non-returnable plastic bottles and beverage cans will be subject to a deposit

    .

This applies above all to juices, wine, spirits and milk, according to the German government.

However, there is a transition period until 2024 for plastic bottles with milk beverages. One-way bottles that are already on the market can be sold in supermarkets free of deposit until July 1, 2022.

After that, consumers have to pay 25 cents per bottle.

  • Aldi Nord and Süd, Lidl and Kaufland want to do without

    cheap pork in

    2022

    .

This is about the type of husbandry 1, in which the pigs are crammed together in a small space in the barn.

  • The type of

    husbandry is also to be

    marked

    on

    dairy products from 2022

    .

This gives consumers the opportunity to see how the cows are kept.

  • Anyone who has

    electronic scrap

such as broken e-toothbrushes, small table lamps or broken pocket calculators should, according to the

    chip.de

    portal,

be able to hand them in at the supermarkets in the future.

A legal expert explained that the requirement is based on the range and size of the shop in question.

It doesn't matter where the customer bought the device.

A new device only has to be purchased in return for large devices such as televisions.

Changes in supermarkets in 2022: Corona will continue to be a big topic

The corona pandemic will most likely still be a predominant topic in supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi, Kaufland and Co. in 2022.

So far, the 2G rule has not applied in everyday shops (including supermarkets), as in other retail sectors.

A change has not yet been determined (December 27th).

However, the Omikron variant is causing concern, and the rules may be sharpened after all.
