Bordeaux have officially asked for the postponement of the match against Olympique Marseille on Friday 7 January. The reason is explained in a note published on the club's website: in the team group there are 17 players struggling with Covid-19 and therefore the Girondins are not able to field a team to face the OM.
Going into detail, eight players tested positive last week and are still in quarantine (seven days) waiting to do the swab that could 'free' them, while another seven have contracted the virus in recent days. Then there are two other negative laps in the last few hours but which are deemed not yet able to take the field.
To these absences caused by Covid, Bordeaux must add those of the injured Jimmy Briand, Amadou Traoré and Paul Baysse, and of Junior Onana and Gideon Mensah, called up by their respective national teams (Cameroon and Ghana) for the Africa Cup.
This is why Bordeaux asked not to play on Friday.
