Swans are sometimes seen as somewhat capricious animals.
If they feel harassed or see their offspring threatened, the birds can in rare cases react aggressively to people.
But that didn't stop a senior citizen in Berlin from getting up close and personal with a swan in order to help him out of an emergency.
As a video from Monday that has now been distributed hundreds of thousands of times on Twitter shows, the woman threw the swan from a bridge back into the water.
According to the video description, the incident occurred at the Admiralbrücke in the Kreuzberg district.
The swan had apparently wandered around on the bridge and couldn't find the way back to the Landwehr Canal.
The swan initially resisted the woman's courageous grip, but became calm shortly before being thrown over the railing of the bridge.
Finally you can see how the animal swims away apparently unscathed back in the water.
