The two newborns are twins - they were both born in Salinas, California, but not in the same year: Alfredo Antonio was born on December 31, 2021 at a quarter to twelve, his sister Aylin 15 minutes later, in 2022.
Fatima Madrigal, mother: »I didn't realize it, I thought they would be born in the same year. I didn't know they would be born in different years. It was a surprise."
The hospital where they were born estimates that there are about 120,000 twin births in the United States each year.
The probability that these will be born in different years, however, is around one in two million.
Fatima Madrigal, mother: “I will explain it to you when you are older. And then if you want to celebrate your birthdays in different years, that's your business. But now that they are little and with me, they will celebrate their birthday together. "
