The child allowance increased on January 1, 2022 - but only slightly.

The Ampel-Coalition has announced further measures to support numerous families.

The

child allowance

, a benefit in addition to child benefit for

families with low incomes

, was increased slightly at the turn of the year.

On January 1, 2022, it rose by 4 euros from 205 euros

to up to 209 euros per month and child

.

The Federal Employment Agency informs on its website, among other things, that the child allowance is calculated individually for each child.

“You will receive a maximum of 209 euros per child per month.

If there are several children, a total amount will be paid out. "

Entitlement to child allowance?

The child allowance is intended to help parents make a living.

But not all families are

entitled

to it.

Families: Basic child security is coming - what is in the coalition agreement?

For critics, the increase does not go far enough.

What else is planned in the future to support low-income families?

In the coalition agreement, the SPD, FDP and the Greens

agreed on

basic child  security.

It is planned that with such a basic child protection, previous financial support services such as

child benefit

and

benefits for children in Hartz IV households

will be bundled.

The basic child security should primarily relieve families with little money, it said.

Many questions still remained unanswered.

According to a report by the

Handelsblatt

(as of December 16)

, Federal Family Minister Anne Spiegel (Greens) announced that the working group agreed in the coalition agreement, headed by the Federal Family Ministry, will be set up in early 2022 to initiate

basic child

benefits.

"She has difficult questions to solve at the numerous interfaces between the various services," Spiegel is

quoted in the above-mentioned report on

handelsblatt.com .

"That will certainly take some time."

Immediate child allowance for families announced - Family Minister explains the plans

The Federal Minister has also announced an

immediate bonus for children

from low-income families, as the editorial network Germany (RND) reported at the beginning of December. The

immediate surcharge

should benefit recipients of

Hartz IV

social welfare

 or

child allowance

until the Ampel-Koalition implements its more comprehensive project of basic child protection, the German Press Agency (dpa) described on the occasion of the report at the time about the plans. According to Spiegel, the immediate surcharge for children in poor families planned by the traffic light parties should be

graded according to age

will.

"We will still determine the exact amount," explained the Federal Minister for Family Affairs in the interview with the RND.

When asked whether the surcharge should be 10 to 25 euros per child and month, she replied: “This is the direction we are going.” According to her, 2.7 million children in Germany would benefit from it.
