(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 05 - In the week between December 28 and January 4, the growth rate of Covid admissions in Fiaso sentinel hospitals (Italian Federation of Health and Hospital Companies) accelerated by 25.8%.

It emerges from the report on the data collected from 21 health facilities and hospitals and 4 pediatric hospitals distributed throughout the territory. The proportion between vaccinated and non-vaccinated patients remains stable: non-vaccinated patients admitted to resuscitation are 72% of the total. Half were in good health and had no morbidity. The age range is from 18 to 83 years.

There are 28% vaccinated in intensive care: over two thirds are affected by other serious diseases that could have determined a reduced efficacy of the vaccine. 85% of cases are people who have been given two doses of vaccine for over 4 months and have not yet received the third dose. The unvaccinated hospitalized in intensive care are 72% of the total.

"Unlike a year ago, we are not in lockdown and this, combined with the very high contagiousness of the virus, is creating tremendous pressure both on the dirty path and, above all, on the clean path: citizens rightly ask to be treated also for non-Covid diseases and, even if positive but without symptoms, they arrive at the hospital for other diseases or other problems. I think of all pregnant women who need assistance in obstetrics but are positive for Covid ", comments the Director General of Ircss San Martino in Genoa (sentinel hospital) Salvatore Giuffrida . "The reduction in the workforce - he adds - caused by the suspension of unvaccinated personnel, is putting the system under stress, which has now been two years of strong tension. The San Martino di Genova in the last three months of 2021 exceeded the production of 2019 thanks to the Restart project wanted by the Liguria Region, but the continuous reduction in staff and beds leads to an inevitable reduction in activities on the clean path ".
