The country sets a new record of daily Covid cases on Wednesday and the number of Covid patients admitted to hospital continues to increase

While the deputies are still debating the government bill aimed at transforming the health pass into a vaccination pass, contaminations continue to increase in France.

The number of new Covid-19 contaminations should reach 335,000 announced Olivier Véran, a little earlier today.

There are very exactly 332,252 new cases of Covid-19 which were identified this Wednesday by Public Health France, against 271,686 Tuesday and 208,099 last week.

A situation which prompts the government spokesperson to sound the alarm bells.

"In two weeks, the incidence rate has tripled to 1,800 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in France," said Gabriel Attal, the government spokesperson after the Council of Ministers.

But once the “holiday effect” is removed, it is closer to 1900.

The incidence rate (corrected for the public holiday effect) is now close to 1,900 in France.

At the hospital, the increase in admissions of patients "diagnosed with Covid" also continues.

According to Public Health France, 20,688 of these patients are currently treated in hospital, while there were 20,186 the day before, and 17,856 last Wednesday.

2,483 people have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, slightly below the 2,881 admissions on Tuesday.

Among these patients, the health agency has 3,695 patients in critical care, the care units reserved for the most severe cases, against 3,665 the day before and 3,469 a week earlier.

In 24 hours, 396 patients entered critical care.

246 new deaths are also to be deplored, bringing the total of deaths since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic to 124,557 deaths in France.
