The environmentalist deputy from Cologne has set himself the task of "fully implementing the fundamental rights of trans, inter and non-bi people.

"Become a pioneer country in the fight against discrimination": the Ministry for the Family of the new German government announced on Wednesday the appointment of a ministerial delegate to the cause "queer", to fight against sexual and gender discrimination, a first.

The Anglo-Saxon term "queer" encompasses all sexual and gender identities that differ from heterosexuality.

The environmentalist deputy Sven Lehmann, 42, will be responsible in particular for preparing a “national action plan”. He will perform this function within the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which brings together social democrats, liberals and environmentalists, where human parity - woman is applied for the first time.

Two transgender female parliamentarians in the Bundestag

Sven Lehmann, elected from Cologne, was already between 2018 and 2021 spokesperson on this “queer” question within the environmentalist parliamentary group in the Bundestag.

“The protection of people on the basis of their sexual and gender identity must be guaranteed in the Basic Law,” Sven Lehmann warned after his appointment.

The fundamental rights of trans, inter and non-binary people must finally be fully implemented ”.

“We also need a broad strategy to combat hostility towards these people, including explicitly homosexual hostility,” explains Lehmann, quoted by the Taggesspiegel.

The renewal of the Bundestag at the end of September, marked by more diversity within the lower house of parliament, was notably marked by the election of two transgender women, Tessa Ganserer and Nyke Slawik.
