Health crisis and haute couture: how will the parades unfold in 2022?

2022-01-05T17:55:33.356Z

Giorgio Armani has given up presenting its men's and haute couture collections. A decision that casts doubt on the holding of the haute couture week in Paris, which begins Monday, January 24.

The ad has an air of déjà vu.

It fell on Tuesday, January 4, by way of a press release: faced with the increase in Covid-19 cases in Europe, the Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani is canceling his parades scheduled for Milan Fashion Week as well as in Paris, during the spring-summer 2022 haute couture week, the latter scheduled for January 24-27.

A decision "taken with great regret and after careful consideration in light of the worsening epidemiological situation", it is specified.

Armani is thus one of the first brands to give up presenting its collection in public on the eve of men's and haute couture fashion shows, as was already the case in February 2020 at the start of the pandemic.

If at the time the Italian house had switched to a virtual presentation of the collection, this time it will not be the case.

Vaccination pass and distance

Still, the cancellation of the Armani fashion shows is to date the only one recorded in the Parisian fashion show calendar. The Federation of Haute Couture and Fashion (FHCM) confirms the maintenance of Men's Fashion Week and Haute Couture Week, leaving houses the choice to parade face-to-face or present their collection digitally. "The official calendar will be published on Friday or Monday," said the FHCM, which specifies that it is considering a health protocol in accordance with government measures in cases where the face-to-face parades will be well maintained. Since January 3, and for a period of three weeks, it is possible to accommodate 2,000 people indoors and 5,000 outdoors,on the condition of making use of the vaccination pass and guaranteeing a distance of at least 1 meter between two people wearing a mask.
