Start the day healthy with a muesli for breakfast?
Unfortunately, this does not apply to all products.
Öko-Test examined 50 mueslis and identified problems with mineral oil and pesticides.
Many consumers should already be aware that purchased mueslis contain a lot of sugar and are not as healthy as they promise *.
However, the fact that some
fruit mueslis contain
pesticides, some of which are even banned in the EU, is likely to spoil their appetite.
Several products fail in the
Öko-Test
investigation .
In addition to the pesticides, the mineral oil components contained and too much sugar are also criticized.
The good news: at least 21 fruit mueslis passed the test with top marks.
Muesli put to the test: Öko-Test finds questionable pesticides in fruit mueslis
The
50 examined mueslis
from different brands - including 29 products from the organic range - have varying proportions of fruit from seven to 55 percent. The laboratory commissioned by Öko-Test found several
pesticides
in many muesli mixes - in one case even 31 pesticides in just one bag. This is classified as problematic due to the poorly researched interactions for possible health risks. Öko-Test also criticized the fact that injection poisons were found in some mueslis that are no longer allowed to be used in the EU. In addition, traces of
glyphosate
were found in five fruit mueslis
discovered: an injection poison suspected of being cancerous that has not yet been banned, but is highly controversial.
Öko-Test also sees a problem with mineral oil components: both contamination with saturated mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH) and with aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH) have been detected.
