A new Corona variant has been identified in the south of France
Although the omicron is still raging outside, it can now be said that the severity of its disease is less strong.

For anyone who was skeptical and also for the optimistic ones, it seems that the omicron is not the last variant of the corona and that the disease will continue to bother us in the years to come.
A new variant of COVID-19 with 46 mutations is spreading these days in the south-east of France and is causing concern.
The information about the new version is very limited, but it is assumed that it originated in Cameroon in Africa and carries multiple mutations in the spike protein.
In the area most affected by the outbreak of the new strain, which is near Marseille, 12 cases of infection have been reported, and there has been a significant increase in hospitalizations.
The lower vaccination rate in the region and an older population may be to blame, but it is still too early to draw conclusions about the epidemiology of the new version.

The version nicknamed Pangolin B.1.640.2 and now known as IHU, is a "sister" of the B.1.640 strain marked "variant under monitoring" by the World Health Organization in November 2021. IHU was first identified in mid-November in Paris, which means it arrived before The omicron.
Despite the time it has been in the air, only about 20 sequences of IHU have been discovered since its inception, while the omicron variant has spread rapidly and become the dominant version in almost every country in the world, suggesting that the omicron is more contagious than the new variant.
Dr Thomas Peacock, a virologist at Imperial College London, said the new version had "a good chance of causing trouble, but it never really materialized." He added he did not think there was any reason to worry about the virus.

Still, the new version is now fully described in an article published in MedRxiv, which analyzed it and identified the 46 mutations found within the new variant.
This work has not yet been peer-reviewed and does not contain information on the severity or ability to infect.
The authors claim that the first person with an IHU version returned from a trip to Cameroon three days earlier, and was fully resilient and even received a third booster.
The variant has now infected 12 people in the south of France, but experts declare that this is not currently a cause for concern.
