People tend to assume that today's boys and girls are only interested in ticketing and themselves, but a deeper acquaintance with the world of adolescents shows that they - even more than the generation before them - are very busy with their future, and many are already working hard to achieve their goals. Fortunately, today there are programs and groups that allow them to aim as high as they want.

The Future Scientists Center of the Maimonides Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Division for Gifted and Outstanding Students, offers unique programs for gifted and outstanding youth who wish to integrate into the world of academia and research while in high school. The programs, which sign up for January 16, include academic studies in science (Odyssey), research in the scientific fields (Alpha) and also a research program in the humanities (Idea) - so they are suitable for many teens, with diverse interests.

Registration for the Alpha, Odyssey and Idea programs is in progress and will end on January 16 ,22. for further details

All programs take place on campuses throughout the country: Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Technion, Ben Gurion University, the Weizmann Institute of Science, Ariel University, Bar Ilan University and Tel Hai Academic College - so they are available to youth from all over the country.

"If you are suitable for the program - the way will be found to allow you to study in it."

"The Alpha, Odyssey and Idea programs also produce a very important student connection with the academy at a relatively young age, and these are also national programs, so no matter where you live, the way will be found - if you fit the program - to allow you to study there, if fully funded by the ministry And the foundation and if it is partially funded. Here is the great importance, "explained Menachem Nadler, director of the Gifted and Outstanding Students Division at the Ministry of Education.

The goal: to advance a generation of researchers who will take part in the next big breakthroughs

"The Maimonides Foundation's Center for the Future Scientists was established with the aim of investing a lot of resources in nurturing and promoting gifted and outstanding students," explained Eli Fried, the center's CEO. The greatest in Israel and in the world in the 21st century. "

Fried added that the Center for Future Scientists runs a number of programs in middle and high schools, all for the gifted and outstanding, with each program providing a different response to topics of interest to different students." Programs are different, tools Our goal plan is the same.

There is more than one way to reach and fulfill this vision, and each plan does it in a slightly different way. "

Thousands of students enroll each year.

The admission process for these programs is very long and thorough.

"There is a very high demand for programs, thousands of students enroll every year and the screening process is very rigorous - both because it is our measure to promote students, and also because in the end it is not enough to want to be accepted, programs are very demanding "It does not suit everyone, but for those who do - it changes lives."

"The screening process is complex, and it's not suitable for everyone," Nadler also stressed. "But in the end, those who enter the programs receive a broad envelope - educational, social and emotional - that accompanies them even later."

Continue to accompany the participants even long after the program is over

Although the Odyssey, Alpha and Idea programs are about learning and enriching knowledge, they give the participating youth much more.

"We not only deal with studies," Fried explained, "studies are very important, but in addition to that there is a lot of emphasis on the emotional side, on the treatment of 'soft' skills on a personal and interpersonal level, it is very strong in programs, and the social side is very significant. No less emphasis on the formation between the students, on the connection between them. "

This relationship is important not only for the coping and inclusion of the challenging studies, but also for the continuation of the academic future of the participants. "We are trying to build a group that will later become the spearhead. And this happens not only in the programs, but also after. We continue to promote the graduates even after through the 'School Network' This network promotes the graduates before and after military service, in academia and professional development. Social - There is a lot of connection with the industry, meeting them with leading people in academia, high-tech and the public sector, seeing the field, giving scholarships to those who need them, and there is also a lot of social activity, "Fried explained, adding that" our elders today are 26, and every year 400-500 new boys and girls are joining. "

Nadler also noted that the Gifted and Talented Division places emphasis, as does the Center for Future Scientists, not only on the cognitive and pedagogical side, but also on emotional and social aspects.

"There is an accompanying consultant, there is social activity, there is leadership empowerment activity, to really direct them to be the future generation of influencers in the scientific and social contexts they are researching," he said.

A collaboration that puts the children at the center

All "Future Scientists" programs are run in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. "This partnership is very important to us," Fried stressed.

"The Center for Future Scientists and the Division for Outstanding and Gifted Work together - with co-funding and joint steering committees - to see the needs of the children, see the connection with the schools, see if there is a program the child is in and it does him no good," Nadler added. This partnership, and the connection with the schools, make it possible to give children a broad solution, and allow them to invest in their future, and also enjoy the present.

"We do not intend in these programs to replace the school, on the contrary - we think it is important that the child experiences all the social and social processes of the school, and the values of course. Gifted and outstanding can often do both, they can be in research labs without giving up movement Youth and sports, "Nadler concluded," are the kids we're looking for. And they make a lot of money. "
