(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JAN 06 - Tragedy in Philadelphia, where a fire in a townhouse killed twelve people, including eight children.
Two were injured.
The three-story house had been converted into apartments.
The causes of the fire are not known.
The brigade intervened after a call and took about an hour to put out the flames.
According to the American media, the authorities have not yet entered the apartments.
The house is located in the Fairmount neighborhood, a few kilometers from the city center.
The age of the victims ranges from two to 33 years.
The fire broke out early Wednesday morning.
There were four smoke detectors in the building but none of them went into operation.
