While the threshold of 300,000 contaminations was crossed on Wednesday, the incidence rate (number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the past week) has just exceeded 2,000. This means that more than one inhabitant in 50 has tested positive over the last seven days.
The repercussions are particularly felt in schools, where 10,800 classes were closed Thursday.
At the hospital, the increase in admissions of patients "diagnosed with Covid" also continues.
According to Public Health France, 21,169 of these patients are currently treated in hospital, while there were 20,688 the day before, and 18,321 last Thursday.
2,401 people have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, slightly below the 2,483 admissions on Wednesday.
Among these patients, the health agency has 3,759 patients in critical care, the care units reserved for the most severe cases, against 3,695 the day before and 3,506 on December 30.
In 24 hours, 410 patients entered critical care.
206 new deaths are also to be deplored, bringing the total of deaths since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic to 124,600 deaths in France.
In terms of vaccinations, more than 75,000 appointments for a first injection have been booked on Doctolib in three days (Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday).
