Peas are a popular side dish and are often bought from the freezer.

But how good are they really?

Öko-Test examined 21 frozen peas and came to a rare conclusion.

Frankfurt - Vegetables should be on the meal plan every day.

Frozen vegetables are all the more practical: they are quick to prepare and have a long shelf life.

But how good are frozen vegetables really?

Öko-Test took a close look at frozen peas in the current issue and came to a surprising result.

Öko-Test: frozen peas on the test bench

Because all 21 products tested were able to finish with the grade “very good”.

The peas were tested for pollutants.

The result: "When it comes to exposure to pesticides, cadmium or nitrate, you can't go wrong with frozen peas," explains Öko-Test.

In total, the peas were eight organic products and 13 conventional products.

The laboratory did not find synthetic pesticides in any of the eight organic products in the test - not even in the majority of conventionally grown peas.

Only in six products were residues of individual pesticides such as pyrimethanil or azoxystrobin found in very small quantities.

Eco-test with a rare conclusion: frozen peas convince in the test

According to Öko-Test, this positive result could be due to the origin of the peas.

Accordingly, the frozen peas checked all come from the EU.

Conventional crops grown in the European Union usually contain less pesticide residues than those from outside.

This emerges from the annual reports of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, according to the consumer magazine.

As a result, it doesn't matter whether you choose the cheaper option or the expensive frozen peas: Frozen peas are a healthy food for quick meals that you can't go wrong with.

It looks different with muesli.

Because popular muesli brands failed the eco test.
