125 passengers out of 179 (160 adults and 19 children) on the entire plane, which flew yesterday (Wednesday) from Milan, Italy (BGY), to Amritsar, India (ATQ), were infected with the corona virus.
The flight was operated by the Portuguese charter company EuroAtlantic Airways and lasted about seven hours.
Upon arrival in Italy, as the country is considered a "high-risk" destination, all adult passengers had to be checked on arrival and out of those 160 adult passengers, 125 were found positive for Corona - i.e. a rate of 78%.
Many of the passengers were surprised to know that they were positive for Corona and began to ask the authorities if the other passengers on the plane had passed pre-flight checks, and these replied that it was indeed so and the passengers all boarded the plane when they were negative.

The passengers were placed in quarantine
Relatives of some of the passengers, who came to pick them up at the airport, were disappointed when they learned that their relatives had been found positive for the virus and would therefore go into quarantine. Later, the verified passengers were put into ambulances that drove to the quarantine facility until recovery.
The flight had only one stopover in Tbilisi, Georgia, where the plane would be refueled, but it is unclear if this is the source of the infection and if anyone else, perhaps the plane's technical staff, boarded. Either way, Italy is one of the high-risk countries for Omicron according to the EU Ministry of Health.
Upon receipt of the test reports, some passengers were unhappy with the results they received and created a commotion at the terminal, and some refused to enter the isolation department of any of the city hospitals and there were those who pressured the authorities to release them.
Officials from the local health ministry tried to persuade the passengers to evacuate to the Corona ward at any of the hospitals they would like in Amritsar.
Amritsar airport authorities tweeted that they had taken all necessary steps to prevent the spread of the disease.
