Parts of Germany can look forward to snow at the weekend.

The German Weather Service (DWD) is already predicting white flakes in a strip from the south and southwest to the northeast for this Friday, which will fall to the ground in a mix with rain.

Especially at higher altitudes from 200 to 400 meters, a blanket of new snow of a few centimeters can remain.

In the northwest, too, it snows from the afternoon, otherwise it rains at zero to six degrees.

There will be very heavy snowfall in a narrow strip from Saturday morning when a low crosses central Germany from west to east, said DWD meteorologist Felix Dietzsch on Thursday in Offenbach. An exact forecast of where the winter landscape will spread does not yet exist, probably in an area from Rhineland-Palatinate or North Rhine-Westphalia to Hesse. 10 to 20 centimeters of snow could fall within a few hours. In the other parts of the country it initially remains mostly dry, in the west it rains from the afternoon. The maximum temperatures are between two and six degrees.

According to the forecast, it will snow on Sunday, especially in the low mountain ranges and in southern Germany, otherwise sleet prevails.

On Monday it will be milder, so that most of the remaining snow will melt again.
