(ANSA) - BEIJING, 07 JAN - At least 20 people were trapped after an explosion in the canteen of a building that houses government offices in the Chinese city of Chongqing in the south-west of the country, in the district of Wulong.
The explosion occurred shortly after noon causing varicrolli inside the building and is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak. Authorities have sent around 260 rescuers and 50 vehicles to the scene, according to state media, according to which the causes of the explosion are now being investigated.
Nine people were rescued, while the Chinese press agency Xinhua reports that some of the injured have been taken to hospital.
The rescue operations, according to the media, cynicalizing the local authorities, are still in progress.
It is estimated that around twenty people are still trapped.
