(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 07 - Taxi Driver by Rkomi is the best-selling album of 2021, while as regards the single it is Sangiovanni with Malibù to prevail.

And Italian music is the undisputed star of the past year, according to the annual sales charts Top Of The Music by FIMI / GfK.

The Top 20 of albums (which includes channels: physical, digital and premium streaming) is Italian and for the first time ever the top ten of Singles (download and streamingpremium) is entirely Italian.

On the podium of the albums also the homonymous project by Sangiovanni and by Teatro d'Ira - Vol. I by Maneskin, protagonists of an exceptional 2021 also at an international level. You drive me crazy by Blanco & Sfera Ebbasta is placed in second position among the Singles, followed by Mille di Fedez, Achille Lauro & Orietta Berti. Stainless Pink Floyd with The Dark Side of the Moon stands at the top of the Vinil chart.

A growth that is evident in the certification area: in 2021 a total of 231 Albums, 6 Compilation and 1,054 Digital Singles were awarded, including gold, platinum and multi-platinum. In terms of streaming volumes (free + premium) in 2021 479album exceeded the threshold of 10 million streams: a total of 302 artists, for a significant growth compared to ten years earlier. In 2011 only 134 albums for 105 artists had in fact exceeded the equivalent threshold of 10,000 copies sold (physical + download). An important signal also for the economic sustainability of the market: many more artists are achieving success thanks to digital.

2021 also saw the strong pull of streamingpremium, whose volumes grew by 42%.

And after an inevitable phase of stopping in the lockdown, the physical market rebounds with a volume of growth rate of 18% compared to 2020: it is a figure driven by the vinyl segment, which alone grew by 44.2% compared to the 'last year.

The cassette segment also grew, showing a + 41% in volumes sold.
