North Korea skips Beijing 2022, but criticizes US boycott

(ANSA) - BEIJING, 07 JAN - North Korea misses the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing 2022, but accuses the US attempts to prevent "the successful opening of the Winter Games".

Pyongyang, in a note from the KCNA, reported that the spread of Covid-19 is at the basis of the choice, re-presenting the reasons that led the country to avoid the Tokyo Summer Games.

The move was communicated to China in a letter from the National Olympic Committee and the North Korean Ministry of Sports.

Preparations for Beijing2022 "have been satisfactorily made thanks to the positive efforts" of the leadership under President XiJinping.
