In 1964, Sidney Poitier was the first black man to be honored with an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role in "Lilien auf dem Felde".
The Bahamian-American actor played in a number of other acclaimed dramas, thrillers and musicals, such as "Escape in Chains" (1959), "In the Heat of the Night" (1967) or "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (1967) .
Now he died in Los Angeles at the age of 94, as reported by several Bahamian media on Twitter.
