Customs in Bavaria stopped a truck with around 10.4 million smuggled cigarettes.
As the main customs office in Regensburg announced, officials checked the trailer at Waidhaus on the German-Czech border at the beginning of December.
According to the shipping documents, the truck should be loaded with 26 pallets of wrapping paper.
Blown up during X-ray control
During an X-ray inspection of the truck, customs discovered a corresponding number of pallets, but they were filled with "smuggled cigarettes from a well-known manufacturer."
A total of 52,000 bars were in the truck. There was no sign of wrapping paper.
Customs put the tax damage prevented at around 1.8 million euros.
An arrest warrant was issued against the truck driver.
