Much was discussed and decided during the Corona summit on January 7th.

But what about the corona rules when shopping in the supermarket?

Munich - The corona virus is still on the rise.

Above all, the Omikron variant, which in comparison to other variants sometimes manifests itself with unusual symptoms, is currently spreading rapidly in Europe.

In this regard, heads of government met on Friday, January 7th, for another corona summit.

Some big rule changes were announced for the coming weeks that should help contain the virus.

But what is the situation like when shopping in the supermarkets?

Corona summit: new rules in gastronomy

The gastronomy is undoubtedly the hardest hit by the decisions of the Corona summit.

Because while in many establishments only the 2G regulation previously applied, this is now being expanded nationwide to 2G-Plus.

This means that only those vaccinated or genesis who can also show a negative corona test have access to restaurants and pubs.

Only people who have already received their booster vaccination are exempt from the obligation to test.

Corona summit: No new corona rules in supermarkets

While the catering industry will have to comply with even stricter requirements in the future, there will be no new rules for shopping in the supermarket even after the Corona summit.

Since the beginning of December, unvaccinated people have only been allowed to shop in shops for daily needs - including supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and, surprisingly, fashion stores - and this regulation continues to apply.

But it doesn't look the same in all shops: Vaccinated and unvaccinated people can easily do the weekly shopping at Rewe, Kaufland and Co., but Kaufland only grants its employees access to the shop if they can present 3G proof.

A Media Markt in Munich, on the other hand, has completely repealed the 2G regulation in order to offer customers a more pleasant shopping experience.

Since the beginning of December, unvaccinated people have only been allowed to shop in shops for everyday use.

These include supermarkets.

Corona summit: Experts call for 2G regulation for supermarkets

Although the 2G rule is already in place in many stores, some experts are calling for it to be extended to supermarkets as well, primarily to protect vulnerable people such as cancer patients.

Richard Werkmeister, Chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cancer Society, made it clear to

Bild

: “I am in favor of a strict interpretation of the 2G rule - also at work or in the supermarket.

Because a supermarket as an indoor space where many people come together, especially with high incidences, is a place that cancer patients are justifiably afraid of. " Avoid going to the grocery store.

Corona summit: There is still no 2G regulation in supermarkets

Even if the introduction of the 2G regulation in supermarkets would certainly bring a lot of good with it, it is still rejected by large companies.

Although retailers in Hesse and Lower Saxony are allowed to decide for themselves whether to introduce 2G or not, large supermarket chains such as Rewe and Aldi are not very convinced and want to stay true to the existing Corona rules.

The previous requirements - wearing a mask and keeping a safe distance - will not change much in supermarkets in the near future.
