Africa has recorded more than 10 million cases of the coronavirus in total, according to figures from the Continent's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), which reports to the African Union (AU).
Data released by the African Centers for Disease Control showed that as of Saturday, 10,028,508 cases had been reported by the 55 African Union member states since the start of the pandemic.
A total of 231,157 deaths have been recorded, the CDC said.

Infections have skyrocketed since the Omicron variant was discovered in South Africa in late November, prompting a number of countries on the continent to impose further restrictions.
However, immunization in Africa, which numbers nearly 1.2 billion people, has been low, due to limited access to vaccines and reluctance towards vaccines.
Soon 5.5 million deaths worldwide
Since the start of the pandemic, more than 5,483,023 have been killed worldwide, according to AFP's report this Sunday at midday.
The United States is the most bereaved country with 837,264 dead, followed by Brazil (619,937), India (483,790) and Russia (316,163).
However, the World Health Organization estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that officially recorded.
