The special security call imposed on the residents of Israel on July 24, 1938, drew its strength and efficiency from the precarious security situation in the area. The 1936 and 1938 riots, along with the British lack of motivation to protect residents, led to an economic venture designed to train fighters, erect fences, pave hinges, and support other necessary security operations, long before the words "budgetary pension" were also included in the same category.

This emergency tax was called the "settlement ransom" (a name apparently born at an implicit and short-lived branding session) and was imposed on film critics and cigarette consumers, wine drinkers and radio listeners, factory owners and public transportation users. Or in other words - anyone who has somehow managed to enjoy a little, work a little or live a little in those difficult days.

The tax was abolished with the establishment of the state (although its variants accompany us to this day with an efficiency that has not diminished for a moment), but 84 years later it still overlooks Independence Square in Ramat Gan, the residence of the fundraiser.

Beneath it - if one does not of course take into account the architecture and infrastructure, the design of the hinges and the sense of personal security - there is almost no trace of that period.

A few minutes drive away, a "Tel Aviv tax" is imposed on almost everything, but Ramat Gan still manages to ignore, disconnect, keep its residents.

And yes, I'm also talking about grilled chicken.

Orly started spinning her rotisserie poultry exactly four years ago, and in an almost diagonal line to the nostalgic souvenir from that collection.

This strange plaza is now called Independence Square, and because there is no square (why really? There are very few more square-inviting places from this shocking intersection), it is quite easy to conclude that half of the branding is correct.

There's a real independence here, probably Orly's.

The place is small, offers only outdoor seating and an efficient and well-functioning takeaway system.

It is better, as in the good ones at these poultry stands, to come first, and win.

In addition to those on which part of the menu is based, plancha is also hot here, with chicken or kebab skewers, chunks of chicken breast and other surprises.

If you ask, schnitzel will also come from the depths of the back kitchen.

All of these come in a main configuration (chicken quarter, for example) + two toppings (potatoes or green beans) + two salads, in a sandwich (ciabatta or tortilla) or as a base for a salad.

The prices, needless to say, are ones that Tel Aviv has not seen since the birth of the current millennium at least.

I ordered a ciabatta with "torn chicken" (NIS 37) and another with schnitzel (for the same price), and prepared for what we have become accustomed to receiving in recent years when we are promised a ciabatta.

That is, a hard and small version of Italian bread, struggling with the filling instead of protecting it.

Instead, I got a huge, awesome variation, of fresh carbs, a little crunchy on the outside and a lot softer on the inside, that managed to hold everything inside and still go upright.

Extreme value for money.

The torn chicken version proved true in the publication. A very nice amount of chunks of different sizes, without bones and without pose, were placed on homemade spreads, and on top they were loaded with a sweet coleslaw and lettuce in an exact amount, enough for the crunch and just before everything turned green.

This bite is unsophisticated and unsophisticated, but it is a perfect bite - a ciabatta of the ciabatta succumbs to the teeth, and from there a short walk in the oral cavity of 5-6 juicy ingredients, each more juicy than the other, but in the non-competitive and harmonious sense of the sentence. This quality and this quantity (a reasonable person in his characteristics should not finish such a dish alone, and I tried) make this thing an extreme value for money sandwich, and this without trying to remember which sandwich will buy you 37 shekels in Tel Aviv, and without talking about chicken prices there.

The schnitzel sandwich did the same move to coordinate our expectations - we thought small and average, we got a giant and a bomb.

A hot slice of schnitzel was placed under Orly's hands, cut into four pieces - yes, four - and went into the same ciabatta with the same toppings.

Panoramic cut in half revealed layer-by-layer of schnitzel and vegetables, varying degrees of crispiness, yellow of aioli curry and a bit of garlic sauce.

The sound of the defeat - imagine a crunch that does not require special effects from the sound department - is enough to close that it is an abrasion.

His taste makes sure of that.

Price is just something that is sprinkled on top to make the point clear.

The business adjacent to Orly's sells falafel dishes for NIS 12.

In the corner there are hand-squeezed juices, and down the street countless other merchants try to make a decent living without losing self-respect, and without underestimating our dignity.

Bialik Ramat Gani Street, however, is not a periphery, and its twists and turns do not cut any settlement from a demographic cluster that requires tax benefits.

It is a bit like it used to be - a major traffic and walking route, with people who work hard and get hungry at noon, and people who work hard to satisfy, and then go home in the afternoon.

Two minutes drive from the city limits with the most expensive pitas in the world, we too deserve some of it, without paying any fee.
