The Golden Globe 2020 was not broadcast on television following allegations against the Hollywood Foreign Journalists Association about systemic irregularities and the absence of black members.

NBC, which holds the rights to broadcast the ceremony on television as part of a contract with the union valid until 2026, has announced that it will not pass it this year while the union announces a series of reforms, including adding 21 new members.

The last time the ceremony was not televised was in 2008 due to the Hollywood screenwriters' strike.

The association decided not to broadcast the ceremony on an alternative broadcast platform and not on the Internet and the ceremony took place within a limited framework and as a sign of the association's philanthropic activities, with representatives from associations and organizations to which the association has donated over the years announcing the winners.

The ceremony also announced the union's first-of-its-kind partnership with the NAACP, an organization that promotes African American civil rights and is considered the largest and most influential body for the black community in the United States.
