American comedian Bob Saget, best known for his role in the 1980s-90s sitcom "La Fête à la maison," was found dead in a Florida hotel room, his family said on Sunday.

“Devastated, we confirm that our dear Bob is dead today,” the actor's family announced in a statement released by People magazine.

"He was everything to us and we want to tell you how much he loved his fans, playing in public and bringing people from all walks of life together through laughter."

Bob Saget, 65, was found unconscious in a room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The circumstances of death remain unclear.

"No sign of crime or drug use" was found, police said.

The Olsen sisters say they are devastated

The comedian was touring the country and, hours before the news of his death was announced, tweeted about his enjoyment of performing his show in Jacksonville.

Bob Saget, 65, rose to fame playing Danny Tanner, a widowed father of three daughters, whose twins played by sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, in the soap opera "La Fête à la maison".

The sitcom, which aired from 1987 to 1995, was the subject of a sequel on Netflix between 2016 and 2020, focusing on one of the girls, DJ Tanner.

Tributes abounded from the cast of the series.

In a statement relayed by American media, the Olsen sisters said they were "deeply saddened" by this disappearance.

“Bob was the most loving, compassionate and generous man,” they wrote, adding, “he will continue to be by our side to guide us as graciously as he always has”.

Bob Saget was also the narrator's voice-over in the "How I met your mother" series and appeared numerous times, playing his own role, in "Entourage" from 2005 to 2010.
