In the fight against Covid "there must be the commitment of politics to pursue the good of the population through prevention and immunization decisions, which also involve citizens so that they can feel involved and responsible, through transparent communication of problems and appropriate measures to face them ", the Pope told the Diplomatic Corps.

"The lack of decision-making firmness and communicative clarity generates confusion, creates mistrust and undermines social cohesion, fueling new tensions - he added -. A 'social relativism' is established that injures harmony and unity".

"It is important that the effort to immunize the population as much as possible can continue. This requires a manifold commitment at the personal, political and international level. Above all at the personal level. We all have a responsibility to take care of ourselves and of the our health, which also translates into respect for the health of those close to us. Health care is a moral obligation ". So the Pope. But "in a world of strong ideological contrasts", "we often let ourselves be determined by the ideology of the moment, often built on unfounded news or poorly documented facts".

Against Covid there is a need, according to the Pope, "for an overall commitment of the international community" so that "the entire world population can have equal access to essential medical care and vaccines".

Unfortunately, "universal access to health care still remains a mirage for large areas of the world".

"In such a serious moment for all humanity" he reiterated his appeal "for the Governments and private entities concerned to show a sense of responsibility, developing a coordinated response at all levels (...), through new models of solidarity and tools to strengthen the capacities of the countries most in need ".
