In Israel this week, the list of red countries banned from flying was abolished, and although the corona plague is on the rise in many countries around the world, some Israelis will take advantage of the freedom to fly and compensate themselves for the lost time of closure days and tight restrictions.

But while many are eager to go out into the world soon, there are those who are still very concerned about exposure to the virus while on a closed plane. So how dangerous is it now to get on a plane? The Best Life website consulted Prof. Thomas Russo, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Buffalo in the United States, who provides a wealth of advice and insights.

First, the good news, he says, is that the air in the cabin of the plane is well filtered, and safer than most of the public interior spaces we stay in. What’s more: In an article published in National Geographic, it was alleged that during the flight, the air in the cabin is replaced and renewed every three minutes.

However, with a few simple habits and actions, you will be able to take better care of yourself while flying.

Wait with the food until everyone is done

If you are lucky enough to be on a flight that is still serving meals, then you will receive your food tray along with the other passengers, while the air crew moves slowly between the rows of seats.

The same is true when serving snacks or snacks.

The first reaction of those who receive food is of course to take off the mask and eat.

But no matter how hungry you are - it is highly recommended to wait with the food.

Are you served?

Wait patiently until everyone around you finishes eating, and only then take off your mask and enjoy the food.

That way, when everyone has taken off the masks and been busy eating, you are still left protected, with your mask on.

When they are done and put on the masks again, take off yours and eat.

In total you will have to wait 30-15 minutes to satisfy your hunger, but at least you will be on the safe side.

Wear a mask between bites

For maximum protection, Prof. Rousseau also recommends wearing the mask at part of the meal, between bites or between sips, thus also complying with the airlines' mask-wearing policy.

"I advise people who stay to avoid taking off the mask, if possible. If you must take it off, return it when you are not really eating at the moment," Rousseau says.

Be patient

These days, the inconvenience involved in flying is not only related to the obligation to wear masks but also to the fact that in Europe and the United States, the holiday season is now beginning, which means that the chances of significant flight delays and even cancellations are increasing.

This, against the background of the manpower shortage that the plague brought with it.

For example, it was recently reported that the American airline Southwest Airlines canceled nearly 2,000 planned future flights, which caused real chaos at many airports in the country.

In short, do well to prepare mentally for any trouble that may come, and be as patient as possible.
