The issue of inheritance tax is emerging as one of the bones of contention in the presidential campaign.
Invited to the microphone of LCI this Monday morning, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire also took a position on this subject.
According to the tenant of Bercy, "
fiscal stability seems to me the most desirable
", but adjustments should be considered with regard to the abrasive subject of inheritance tax.

“
On direct line transmission, the taxation remains reasonable.
Indirect online - that is to say if you pass it on to a nephew whom you love very much, or to a niece - there, the taxation is extraordinarily high, it is very penalizing
”, thus estimates the Minister of the Economy.
"
If an adjustment is to be made, I have no difficulty with indirect online transmission, where rates are almost confiscatory.
In detail, the rates applicable for direct line heirs range from 5% to 40%.
On the other hand, these rates rise to 55% or even 60% for other donations, in particular indirect online.
The candidates divide
During his interview with Le Parisien last week, the President of the Republic had already addressed this question of inheritance rights - one of the rare sketches of his potential program of candidate for a new mandate.
Emmanuel Macron thus argued that he was not one
of “those who think that we must increase inheritance tax at all costs, on the contrary
”.
He added that “we
must rather support people to help them pass on modest heritage (…).
There is a topic on what I would call “popular transmission”
”.

Several declared candidates have already taken a position on this issue.
While Valérie Pécresse promises a "
shock of heritage transmission
", Anne Hidalgo suggested a reduction in inheritance taxes for the middle classes.
Éric Zemmour and Marine Le Pen, for their part, have each promised significant reductions in these rights in order to encourage family transmission.
