In November 2021, the number of employees increased by 64 thousand units over October and by 494 thousand units in November 2020. This was reported by Istat, underlining that employment grew by 700 thousand units in January 2021 while it is still lower than the pre-pandemic period (February 2020) of 115 thousand units.
For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the threshold of 23 million employed persons (23,059,000) has been exceeded.
Much of the new employment is on a temporary basis with 448,000 more employees with a fixed-term contract (+ 17%).
The employment rate rises to 58.9% (+0.2 points).
The unemployment rate drops to 9.2% with a reduction of 0.2 points on the month and of 0.4 points on November 2020. There are 2,338,000 job seekers, down by 43 thousand on October and 53 thousand units on November 2020.
