A rescue operation in the proverbial last second in Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the drive of the Cessna 172 failed shortly after taking off from nearby Whiteman Airport, and the machine crash-landed on the train tracks.

The collision with the train completely destroyed the aircraft, and several eyewitnesses were almost caught in flying debris.

But there were probably no injuries.

The pilot was rushed to hospital and the severity of his injuries is not yet known.

There were no other passengers on board.

The occupants of the train were also uninjured.
