The Minister of Justice: "Is it a priority of the government? The work of the Ruotolo commission (ANSA) concluded

Interventions on the prison will be one of the "priorities" for the next few days.

This was underlined by the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia, at the inaugural lecture of the Course in Legal Sciences of the Doctoral School of the Bicocca University of Milan, recalling that the work of the Ruotolo commission has just ended.

"We have paid attention to the world of prisons since the beginning and it wants to be a priority" said Cartabia, announcing that "some legislative initiatives will be the commitment of the Ministry in the coming weeks".

After the events of Santa Maria Capua Vetere "we fielded the work of a commission, chaired by Marco Ruotolo, which concluded work at the end of December", underlined the minister referring to the ministerial commission on penitentiary innovation chaired by professor Marco Ruotolo which has developed proposals to improve the daily life of prisoners and those who work there. "At the beginning of 2020 we know what happened in prisons due to the fear of contagion. In this pandemic period, addressing these problems also means ensuring vaccinations, masks and all the necessary checks but at the same time continuing a proposal for activities and re-educational paths even in these conditions which are particularly difficult in prison life ", he concluded.
