The behind-the-scenes charts looked more like a business seminar or symposium than Hollywood's second most desired red carpet after the Oscars.
The Golden Globes, which pay decades of self without diversity and questionable conduct of its member journalists in press conferences, held their 79th ceremony on Sunday in indifference and general opprobrium.
Few of the winners reacted to the announcement of their name.
The prize list was quickly eclipsed by the death of Bob Saget, hero of the sitcom
La fête à la maison.

Little atmosphere at the Beverly Hilton
In all their misfortunes, the Golden Globes have been able to count on unwavering support, that of their host, the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel. But the atmosphere was not that of the great days. No red carpet, no stars, no winners, no camera, no journalist. Deprived of television coverage by its historic broadcaster NBC, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) which oversees the Golden Globes, hosted a small party reception. Little black dresses required and not held prom. Were invited only reporters, members of the HFPA, and representatives of the charities they support. They are the ones who announced the winners. The HFPA having been unable to convince a known presenter to host the evening. Nevertheless,Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger have agreed to send a short video address.

For lack of press accreditation, journalists from the specialized press, like that of

were content to pace the corridors of the Hilton, listening for applause.
No traffic jams, a unique little buffet made up of sashimi and kebabs, where once miles of traffic jams and a dozen exclusive evenings sponsored by chains and platforms awaited guests.
There were so few crowds that hotel guests in bathrobes, returning from the swimming pool, were able to wander around the ceremony floor without restriction.

big winners
Among the nominations, the western by Jane Campion and
Belfast
, a semi-autobiographical account of the childhood memories of filmmaker Kenneth Branagh, were favorites with seven quotes.
In the end,
The Power Of The Dog
crushed everything in its path: best dramatic film, best director and best supporting role for the disturbing Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Belfast
had to settle for a screenplay award while Denis Villeneuve's
Dune
hung on to the award for best soundtrack.

Admirable performances annoy some cinephiles, but neither the best of the year, nor the best of these actors.

A list of uncertain results
A minority of winners celebrated their statuette. Only the teams of
West Side Story
and
Encanto
, crowned best animated film, openly rejoiced on Twitter. Netflix which carried
The Power Of The Dog
, Will Smith or Nicole Kidman shine by their silence.
And again with some reservations. Rachel Zegler noted that she received her trophy exactly three years after being chosen by Steven Spielberg out of 30,000 applicants
.
“
Life is very strange
,” she wrote. Ariana DeBose called on the HFPA to continue reforming: “
There is still work to be done, but when you've worked so hard on a project - with blood, sweat, tears and love - it does. that this work is seen and recognized will always be special
”.
But without reaction, what scope and influence will this prize list have? How many studios will dare to claim a victory at the Globes to feed their campaign for the Oscars? For expert Jeff Sneider, there is little chance that we will see the mention "winner at the Golden Globes" on the litany of movie posters that dot the streets of Los Angeles and the pages of advertisements bought in the hurry. This lack of resonance, coupled with a sluggish American box office for auteur films aimed at the general public (
The Last Duel, Nightmare Alley
) worries some.
“For the box office, when it worked, these price discounts were essential. A statuette was the reason to go see a smaller film. How do you do this in the current climate? "
, alarms Nancy Utley, ex-head of Fox Searchlight (since bought by Disney).
More daring in television
The Golden Globes went further out of their comfort zone by awarding the playoffs of the year.
Unsurprisingly, the third season of
Succession
dominated the evening receiving the trophies for Best Drama Series, Best Actor for its rebellious heir Jeremy Strong and Best Supporting Actress for Sarah Snook, the only girl in the clan.
But the HFPA delivered a historic victory by crowning trans actress and Pose star MJ Rodriguez best actress ahead of Jennifer Aniston (
The Morning Show
), Elisabeth Moss (
The Handmaid's Tale
). The lucky winner was one of the few to comment on the prize list and thanked the HFPA on Instagram.
