David Bloomberg resigned as chairman of the board of the National Library.
In a letter sent this morning (Tuesday) by Bloomberg to board members, Bloomberg explained that his departure was linked to a "fierce and vicious attack, driven by foreign and improper considerations of political and personal revenge."
Bloomberg was recently at the heart of criticism over the appointment of Shai Nitzan, the former state attorney, to the position of rector of the National Library.
Israel Today reported about a month and a half ago that researchers in the library harshly criticized Nitzan's appointment to the position, and that the criteria published for recruiting candidates for the position were quite vague.
Ayala Hasson later posted on Network 13 that Bloomberg had signed a "silence agreement" with an employee who was subordinate to him and complained about sexual harassment on his part, in which he paid her NIS 240,000 and she would not tell about the case in return.

In a letter published today by Bloomberg, he wrote: "More than twenty years have passed since I voluntarily took on the leadership of the National Library's Renewal Project. This is out of a deep belief in the importance of this enterprise The Jew.
"During these decades I led a wide range of initiatives and actions that significantly promoted the project towards its full maturity in the near future. And opening its gates to children and youth and a wide variety of publics, in Israel and around the world. "
Bloomberg wrote that "lately, following a move we made for matter-of-fact and pure motives, we were, in complete and sincere belief that it would be of great benefit to the enterprise of renewal and promote the library, the gates were breached, and the library and I fell victim to a fierce and vicious attack." . R. Keren Adi, and both as Chairman of the Board of the National Library.
"These malicious attacks included distortions, distortions and threats, and even baseless inventions which I deny and reject with disgust.
"However, in my advanced age and health condition I find that I am exhausted. Despite the feeling of severe injustice, and although before the storm broke I was determined to continue to contribute as much as I can to the library's renewal enterprise - an enterprise in which I see my life's enterprise. I am no longer built to fight back, and I am no longer willing to expose the National Library, and my family - my wife, my children and my grandchildren - to the continued relentless media engagement in the affair. From my job at the library and I wish her great success in the continuation of her important path. "
