At “Bares für Rares”, antiques, rarities and collectibles change hands.

But the perfect deal doesn't always come about.

When the Liclair couple from Ulmen arrive on the set of “Bares for Rares *”, they have only one goal: A stylish travel alarm clock from the 60s should be made palatable to the dealers. The expertise and moderator Horst Lichter are very impressed with the branded product,

but the owners' asking price has to be adjusted downwards by the expert.

The couple had at least hoped to get the repair costs back for the watch.

Werner and Regina Liclair had gone to a watchmaker to have the watch repaired.

The bill at that time was an impressive 400 euros.

The problem: The sales value of the travel alarm clock is far below that.

The Bares-for-Rares expertise estimates the value of the property at 250 to 350 euros.

"But then it really is the end of the day," says art and antiques dealer Sven Deutschmanek.

The Liclairs' declared aim was to get back at least the price of the repair.

"Do you want to sell your travel alarm clock to Daniel for 300 euros?"

When they arrive at the dealer's room in the rolling mill in Pulheim, the dealers immediately start bidding for the small travel alarm clock from the Swiss watch manufacturer Jaeger-LeCoultre.

It seems as if the expertise could perhaps be surpassed after all.

But with the bid of 300 euros, dealer Wolfgang Pauritsch asks the all-important question: "Do you want to sell your travel alarm clock to Daniel for 300 euros?"

The unanimous answer: "Yes, gladly".

Thus, the alarm clock, once a gift from a friend to Werner Liclair, passed into the possession of dealer Daniel Meyer.

The Liclair couple already have a plan for what to do with the 300 euros.

"

With the money of 300 euros, we would like to go out to eat with the whole family

and if there is anything left over, the rest will go into the travel budget."
